About our house

This is our extremely comfortable family house in Hanover, Brighton.

We only let our house to families or couples. There are lots of great places for groups of singles to stay in Brighton and our house isn’t one of those!

The terraced Victorian house sleeps 5+ in four/five bedrooms. one/two living rooms, kitchen/diner, utility, shower/wc and bath/wc.

Amenities include: central heating, sky widescreen tv w/dvd and video. wireless broadband, washing machine, drier, dishwasher, piano, cat and tropical fish.

Great views, lots of light. Lovely west facing garden with terrace, lawn and pond. The house is simply furnished in a fairly neutral, contemporary style (with the odd flourish here and there).

It is a comfortable, family home, not a show home, nor an empty letting house. We remove our personal effects, but will leave books, games, toys etc for your use.

About the situation

We are about 15 minutes walk from Brighton Town centre, with its world class theatres, shops, restaurants and clubs. The railway station (50 mins to London) and the sea – down the hill there, up it back, are also about 15 mins walk away.

Hanover is a friendly, villagey area, full of interesting pubs serving excellent food – from Thai to home made pizzas. There is a 20 mph speed zone, and parking is free and fairly easy in our street. It is fairly quiet for such a central area – although the pub across the road can be a bit buzzy (voices only) on summer nights when they open the windows. It's mostly families and students who live here.

Queen's Park, with its excellent playground, tennis courts, cafe, green dog-free hills and duck pond is about 5 mins walk, and you can also walk to the open downland racecourse in about 15 mins.

Local shops are very good, with sainsbury's being a 5 minute drive/15 minute walk away, an excellent organic butcher's 2 mins walk away and smaller supermarkets, off licences, bakers and a good cheap market with fishmongers and veg stalls down the hill. We even have a couple of Turkish shops now – rare for Brighton. There is a really good independent video rental store just round the corner, where you can pick up latest releases and more obscure classics and foreign films.

We have a tried and tested pile of menus from local takeaways, and extremely friendly and helpful neighbours.

A great place for a holiday, an escape from the city, a tryout for living in Brighton.
